Celebrate 1986

September 6, 2011 Leave a comment

Ask anybody and they”ll tell you that the 80’s was a dope year! The 80’s had it all: Michael Jackson with the leather jacket, MTV when it actually played MUSIC VIDEOS, the zenith of BLACK sitcoms, the baddest cartoons and the most epic movies! The 80’s had it locked down.

Although the 80’s was the decade to rant and rave about, more specifically 1986 had to have been the best year yet. Aside from the fact that I was born that year, my ’86 brethren are by far the best batch of people that walk the earth in my opinion. So to you my fellow 86ers, I dedicate this design Enjoy!

Rap On Canvas

August 24, 2011 Leave a comment

Whaddup World! Ok, so lately, I’ve been listening to alot of Kanye, Jay-Z and Bigge, which is a lil unusal for me seeing as though I practically gave up listening to rap almost altogether. But for some reason, “Addiction”, “Dead Presidents” and “The What” have been ringing in my head nonstop for the past few days. So, with those three influences in my brain, as a approach my creative canvas, I decided to go to work.

After a half hour photo search, I came across what I felt were some pretty decent pics of them all. Quickly found a color scheme that I thought fit each of them and tossed on some filters that I’ve been playing around with recently. Initately, I had planned for it to be three individual pieces in a series but than I thought, “What would it look like all on one canvas?” And the end result is what you see before you.

Whaddup world! So check it, this guy’s work I happened to stumble across while I was at work one day. Shawn Patrick-Rice’s work can easily be recognized amongst a crowd. It has a rather eclectic, whimsical style to it while still being vintage with a modern flare. His usage of halftones and textures are very well accented with his bold color choices. Enjoy!

Andreas Preis Artworks

Whaddup World! So check it, I was doing my usual looking around on the Behance Network and happen to come across some dope artwork by Andreas Preis. I love the way he uses cross-hatching as different grades of shading.  Also his usage of bold lines to outline the subjects in his pieces is pretty freaking awesome. It makes his pieces have a sort of comic book feel to them which I love.

Here are a few choice pieces that I enjoy:

Featured!

Whaddup world! So on Monday, March 14th, I woke up and seen the art piece that I did for the awareness of the happenings on the other side of the world (Japan) on the Abduzeedo blog and I was just totally blown away! I was sooo excited and humbled by it.

When the earthquake in Japan happened, I was actually awoke  and I said to myself I wanted to do a piece in tribute to but I think around that time I was maaad tired also. So needless to say, I didn’t do it that night. But to my surprise the next morning, my hero (James White) apparently had the same idea I had. So he beat me to the punch, I’ll give him that, but procrastination has always been my worst enemy. Anyway, I told myself I would still do it regardless. So by the time night came I was done, and like everybody else on twitter, I was posting it up like crazy. I guess at some point my piece made it’s way to Fabio Sasso’s hand and put it on the Abduzeedo blog. So I guess this would be considered my first “feature”….? But anyway, I would like to think the crew over at Abduzeedo for showcasing it and I’ll be sure to have plenty more stuff to post up in the future.

After browsing around on the Behance Network late one night, I came across one of the most clever photography portfolios I’ve seen in a long time.  An alliance by the name of  LazyAnt.  These two young Russian photographers, Kirill Smyslov and Nastya Kazakova, have created lots of awesome artworks. Below are just a few of the photos that I thought were worth peeping out.

Check them out on the Behance Network and on the Cargo Collective to see more of their work.

I admire you, James White

January 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Whaddup world! Hey, real quick,  I just wanna give a big shout out to James White over at Signalnoise.com for being an awesome inspiration to me! He’s a visual artist from Nova Scotia, Canada who designs some pretty cool stuff. His style is like none-other that I’ve ever seen before with the usage of a brilliant array of colors and geometric “shards”. Most of the artwork in his portfolio consist of his personal poster designs but he’s also done some advertising designs for big companies like Google, Nike, Toyota, Motorola just to name a few.

The reason I admire James the most is because he is the embodiment of what I’ve always wanted to be since I was younger. He makes a living off of doing what he loves best and that’s making art! No boss, no punch clock, no restrictions; just pure creativity. And to this, I salute you Jimmy! Keep up the good work man and keep rocking!

Here are a couple of my favs from James White’s Signalnoise gallery on Cargo

Working….

January 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Whaddup world! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything up. I blame it on procrastination, but anyway I’m trying to keep up with the times and actually DO this blog thing so here I go:

Since I’ve been off from school for the winter break, I took that time to do some design work and put it up on my Flickr account. This design is my take on James White’s “Liqiud Gold 77”. Just like James’, the 86 represents the year I was born (1986). I call it “86-ing It”. Feel free to stop over on my Flickr page and drop a comment or two. Enjoy
